TopoDesignerTerrain intelligence

Methodology and trust

Understand the evidence behind each terrain preflight.

A useful terrain screen keeps the evidence chain visible: source, bounded grid, working-cell size, calculation, finding, limitation and next check.

01 · Source

Start with disclosed terrain data

A bounded overview uses available public elevation sources. Optional local GeoTIFF or supported local-only LAZ inputs can provide more detail when their provenance and limits are understood.

02 · Calculate

Analyze the bounded grid

The browser calculates elevation, slope, aspect, contours, modeled flow accumulation, wetness-screen and other terrain context for the represented area.

03 · Interpret

Keep limitations beside findings

Findings and reports retain source, resolution, method, assumptions, limitations and suggested next checks so screening is not mistaken for a final decision.

Data and control

Analysis runs primarily in the browser.

The first preflight does not require an account. Saving and sharing are optional and use configured project storage; private viewer links are the default. Uploaded GeoTIFF terrain is stored only with a compatible saved project, while supported LAZ analysis stays local. Read the privacy notice for storage, service-recipient and deletion details.

Responsible interpretation

Screening identifies questions, not approvals.

Use it to

  • Understand broad terrain shape and relief
  • Identify modeled slope, drainage and wetness patterns
  • Prepare questions for field checks and specialist review
  • Carry source and limitation context into the next conversation

Do not treat it as

  • A survey or legal parcel record
  • A flood, engineering or geotechnical determination
  • A permitting or grading decision
  • A guarantee that land is buildable
